Development of damage curves for buildings near La Rochelle during storm Xynthia based on insurance claims and hydrodynamic simulations

Abstract. The Delft3D hydrodynamic and wave model is used to hindcast the storm surge waves that impacted La Rochelle, France, surrounding area (Aytré, Châtelaillon-Plage, Yves, Fouras, Île de Ré) during Xynthia. These models are validated against tide measurements. then estimate footprint of flow depth, speed, unit discharge, momentum flux, significant height, energy total water depth (flow plus height), wave) force at locations damaged buildings for which insurance claims data available. Correlation results with generates building damage functions. functions shown be sensitive topography in simulation, as well or forcing parameter chosen correlation. most robust result from highly accurate topographic correlated force.
